green light

Right - seeing as though everyone is uber-stressed at the moment, here's a "green light stress relief pad" where anyone can leave a comment that vents about exam stress, life stress or anything else stress during the next few weeks. Just get it out, seriously. I plan to.

[Edit: I guess the whole point is that we can all pray for each other about the things that are aggravating us]

  1. AAAAAARGH! I have no idea where to start with my study!?! lecture notes? past exams? flush my head down the dunny? i don't know!

    ReplyDelete
  2. I'm starting with three days of solid no studying.

Then I go methoidcally through the lecture notes - then do all of the tutorials - then read my textbook summaries.

For coding subjects - got through lecture notes.. then code your ass off for 3 days!!!

to destress... watch the llama song twice - and then get back to work :P

  6. I am sick to death of being sick. I've had three nights in a row of fitful sleep due to this damn cough and I'm getting pretty sick of it, let me tell you. Coughed most of the way through church last night, and haven't really stopped since last Monday. Aaaaarrr*cough cough*rrgggh!

  7. woot... highest score = 26!
    i'm so bored :oP

  8. Im addicted. my best was 22.

I'm so not in the frame of mind to study yet.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm addicted...AND crap at it...

My best score is 3 :(
    How shameful..

    ReplyDelete
  10. I just broke 47!!

at this point I have decided to stop... this could be hazardous to studying.

    ReplyDelete
  11. love the bubble wrap :o)

this all reminds me of a saying i have with my mate Pat from uni: "Shoelaces." Its basically a reference to those times in life where, because what you're supposed to be doing is so boring, everything, including shoelaces, becomes interesting.

my apologies to the addicts. I feel your pain.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 47 too.

if only there was something i was procrastinating from ...

    ReplyDelete
  13. Write a book Karthik... then you can say you're procrastinating whenever you want to :o)

I'm annoyed, coz my phone plan ran out the other day and I have to do something about it. So not the right time of the year :oP argh!

    ReplyDelete
  14. borrow someones phone Karthik! endless hours of fun there..

or if you are really bored - I have a website that you can knock up just for fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. actually - can you draw?

If so I have something to keep you from being bored, which is of the utmost importance!! and very funny at the same time :)

    GRAHHHH!!!!

... and I feel a whole lot better,

  17. 1. I'm sick of this cough - it's almost unbearable and isn't getting any better. Oh my aching nose!

    2. I'm a little concerned for the state of guy-girl friendships around me, and just hoping that all the stress isn't causing undue strain on them. I just worry that the general cross-genderal vibe at the moment, coupled with some awkward situations of late, could be a little disheartening for some people, and not really conducive to sorting out existing problems. Please tread lightly!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Another thing I'm actually really sick of is being so socially daft when I'm around anyone who isn't one of my core group of friends. Or in a big group. Or in front of people. Or when someone has been exceptionally nice to me. The list goes on, but yeah it's really frustrating. I guess as one friend said though, the exam period is a good time for people skills to fall by the wayside :oS

    ReplyDelete
  19. socially daft?

I don't think thats a word that I would use to describe you mate. You have pretty good incite into a lot of things. Don't expect you'll pick up on everything in every conversation, or that you will say the right thing always. Cause you won't. But it doesn't make you at all socially daft.

on 2. Hey, who isn't. there seriously could not be more mess with regards to guy/girl relationships than there is at the moment. Literally everywhere something not good is happening.
To any guy considering stepping things up - I have only the Tim Pedley theory on women to offer you.
    Run!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Actually - give all that is happening... I was just flicking through Hoyts, and saw that Mr and Mrs Smith has come out....

I reckon its the perfect movie given current mood of everyone towards the opposite gender. Anyone keen for some relax time to go and see it at some point?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah - maybe after 1pm on the 1st of July though... *ARGH stupid neuro*

Things aren't that bad at the moment cross-genderally... (is that a word?) Like its awkward for some, you've gotta be really careful how you say everything, otherwise someone from the opposite sex will pick up on it, scrutinise your thoughts and blog their own opinions, and then there's this guy vs girl mentality, where everyone is expcected to take their respective sides, anything that does happen or is said honestly is spoken about and known within the opposite sex within a few days, and any other attempts to be serious become jokes very quickly...

OK maybe we do have some problems.

  22. I don't think I have any serious angst. I'm kinda over it. I'm not saying things aren't wierd... cause I reckon they are, but I'm not angry or agro or anything... or maybe im just confused.

I know of several situations at the moment in which there is some serious angst happening.

In general though... apart from the fact that you all want to throw rocks at us, and that we WILL steal your chocolate - I don't think there is general genderal angst. I love all you lasses (in the strictly non poligamous / friendship sense), and wouldn't change the friendship for anything.

I too admit my blatent addiction to these blogs... mmm.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I wish you would all give up your addictions to these blogs so I would stop reading them and do some study!!

And Iain, I feel your pain with your cough... I've been coughing so much and for so long now I have this sharp stabbing pain in my lungs when I try to breathe because my muscles are giving up.....

    ReplyDelete
  24. Emma, see a doctor. I did today, about to get some medication for it which should help.

Yeah these blogs are good stress relief... too good in fact...

I'd love to see a movie but I think the 45 mins of study in 5 days that I've just pulled off has grounded me for a while... :oS I've actually started today, and got an hour done.

Speaking of which, i have a definition for you all:

double-dutch: (n, Sci.) organic chemistry; see also crap, boredom

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hehehe, Mick you're funny. 'Incite', Mick I think you mean insight. Hehe, oh funny. Yeah, movie sounds good...but not yet. Blah. Back to study and then work. Stupid Woolworths.

  26. I refuse to lighten any tones!!! Our deep discussions on the diference between men and women must at the least gain weight. So to add cornflour (mixed with cool liquid before added to the hot) to the soup I'm going to confess my love for both Micheal Bullen and Tim Pedley and I wouldn't mind having Iain and Phil L. as myy toy boys. And off to bed I go... stupid Sam....

    ReplyDelete
  27. He's good at inciting as well as insighting.

Speaking of spelling nazi's... I'm not going to let you profess your undying love unless you can actually spell my name right...

Would you believe it... my printer just gave up before printing the very last physics lecture notes... AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Was the exam period this stressful for everyone last year? Is second year just like this? What on earth is going on?!?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mate - at this point in second year, I had reached the stage of being nearly catonic.

in first semester I had 6 subjects, all with 3+ assignments, some with as many as 6. overall 27 assesments in a semester. I'm sure many of you have heard about the week where I slept only 10 hours across 7 days. This was second year.

After second year I have only done 3/4 time uni, purely because I was unable to cope with all of the workload + work + church + the hope of actually seeing my friends once in a while.

that being said - my degree has become easier for all years going through now. tis a good thing. But yes - 2nd year is a tough cookie to crunch

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think the cookie is just about to crunch me :[

    ...eek

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm feeling the crunch too :o(
    Aaiiiiiiiiiii!!!!

  34. Hey guys,

am sorry to hear that you guys are feeling the stress of exam time so much :(

I don't know what you guys do to destress. I take really short hard fitness sessions to just take my mind off everything, to destress, and then go again.

I doubt it would work for most people - but I think its useful to have something which you can just vent at for a little bit - destress, and then be able to clear and get back into the study.

Also - praying for each other as we stress through is probably a good thing to be implementing :). Possibly a good destressant too.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah actually, I think I might do that this morning.

Have been praying much for all you guys, and I appreciate your prayers heaps.

    Mmmm mobile phone goodness... :o)

I think today will be hectic.

  37. Oh my goodness!! There's a big ham in my refrigerator... I'm scared.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think it's safe to say you have nothing to worry about, if it's a ham and not a pig that is...

Does the presence of a ham in the refridgerator indicate something special in your household?

    ReplyDelete
  39. No- all it means is that my sister is getting free meat from Woolies head office where she works. But my mum is not very good at roasting meat- and we'll have to eat it all and there's so much. Hey guess what. I just finished my first pen for StuVac!! Hehehe, I love studying. I think I'm going insane too...

    ReplyDelete
  40. hmmm... what is this "pen" of which you speak?
Haven't touched one all stuvac, for study anyway.
Good luck with the ham :o)

    ReplyDelete
  41. ...and he's almost had it... weird burny sensation inside back of head can't be good... best go and study to relieve built-up stress before it explodes...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Did you know that by three weeks after conception, a human embryo has developed a primitive central nervous system and a functional heart the size of a poppy seed?

    Isn't that amazing?

    ReplyDelete
  43. tsk tsk... were you watching that 'in the womb' show??
hmmm...i'm jealous, I wanted to watch it... and i couldn't even tape it cause dad wanted to tape the stupid cricket.. oh how uni ruins my life... :O)

    ReplyDelete
  44. caught red-handed... :o)

if you can get it on video and watch it, get it on video and watch it coz it was flippin' amazing! I didn't watch all of it, just from 3 weeks to 8 weeks. I find it so incredible that all of that actually happens, and that that's what happened to all of us, and that it all happens inside a woman's body... it's the weirdest, freakiest, most amazing thing ever! I wish I was doing biology instead of chemistry right now!

    50 comments!!! Woot!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. yeh... u should have done biology last year... I was totally amazed by the developmental lectures... they were facinating... it truely is the miracle of life.. :o)

awww.. now I'm even more jealous... I should've watched it..

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm jealous too... you guys get to discover the amazing workings of the human body and I'm stuck learning about, amongst other things, reactions of arenediazonium salts (including diazonium coupling reactions), electrophilic substitution of phenols, substitution via benzyne intermediates... yeah, it makes just as much sense to me... but jealousy's no good coz it doesn't really get you anywhere except grumpy and wishing you were doing anything but what you know you should be doing. Hmph.

We could look on the bright side of things... Hopefully for you you'll get to study the amazing workings of the development of the human foetus first hand one day; and I've only got two more days left of putting up with Chemistry :o)

Yeah Rial said that he did Embryology last year and it was the most amazing subject, but i think they've canned it now...?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I watched it- or at least some of it, and don't worry bubbles, it was stuff we already knew, but the images and new technological break throughs were amazing. Oh- and the whole child inside womb thing- also amazing. BUT you can now see your baby in 4 dimensions!!! How amazing is that!? It's late and now I have to justify being awake this late. Ciao miei amici!!! Bouna sera!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ciao!

    Morning Ponderage:
This week has actually been one of the most character-building times of my life. This stress has broken down walls and allowed me to see core things about myself which I had never seen before. Getting to know other people deeply is a very cool thing, but getting to know yourself deeply, almost as though from the outside looking in... that's something else entirely. [insert abstract development-in-womb analogy here]

    ReplyDelete
  49. Leanne - Taping the cricket is a perfectly good excuse!!! :)

Iain - I thought that said morning porridge to start. nm.
Understanding how you work, I think, is harder than understanding other people.

I reckon I have a better understanding of other people - well some other people. But really don't have a particularly good one of myself.

That being said - did you know that you can write routine algorithms in a template format, and that the C++ compiler will pretty much let you get away with relabelling data into any format that you desire?

    ... back to study then.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey Iain,
I don't think that you can cheer about having 50 somments on your blog when 22 of them are from you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. and comments

    ReplyDelete
  52. You're enjoying this, aren't you, mr/mrs anonymous person :oP

Who says I can't cheer? Hmmm? Can I have a name? No? Oh well, I guess I can cheer all I want then ;o)

Besides, that's only 8 more than mick, and it's less than half. I happen to be a fan of two-way communication!

    ReplyDelete
  53. 23.5 hours and a passworthy effort and I'll never have to do Chemistry again in my life :oD yay!

Mate good luck with it. Will be praying fro you with hat one on Monday.

    Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
    When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
For I am the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.
I give Egypt as your ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba in exchange for you.
Because you are precious in my sight,

    Do not fear, for I am with you;
I will bring your offspring from the east,

Wed arvo - Maths paper 1
    Sat morn - Physics
Mon arvo - Maths paper 2

p.s. Karthik, the 4th dimension is time. I challenge you, since you want something to procrastinate from, to figure out a way to draw a 4-dimensional graph of... say... anything :o)

  60. One down.

God willing, that will be the last thing I have to do with Chemistry ever, apart from hear that I passed. God willing. I've been known to count my chickens before they hatch...

I love it when you unexpectedly nail a 10-marker in the last half hour. It makes the whole 3 hours at least seem worthwhile!

    Thanks for your prayers :o)

    How was social psych, Katie?

I have to say, I kinda agree with Baxter...

    ReplyDelete
  61. Baxter Bunny - nothing is truer :P

Iain - glad to hear that it was done and you seem pretty happy with it!!

My torture begins tomorrow... but I'm feeling pretty confident with this one.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Good to hear you nailed your 10 marker Iain, much better than my Chemistry experience.
Social was pretty cruisy - for a subject that everyone describes as "a course on how to be popular", Twas my most least scary exam and its good to have one under the belt.

I thought I'd use this opportunity to share with you all Dr Lisa's dating tips - from her lectures on interpersonal attraction. Good for helping you remember points for the exam... and may come in handy for some people in life, all backed up by psychological research too!

    Dr Lisa's Dating Tips:
    1. A person will like you if you say/do something pleasant rather than someting unpleasant
    2. Be very careful when you chat someone up
    3. To get close to that special someone, you may need to expose yourself
    4. Keep your prospective date away from hot people
    5. Dim lighting is your friend!

    Enjoy

    ReplyDelete
  63. That was kinda disturbing...

    3. To get close to that special someone, you may need to expose yourself

these are some drastic measures that your lecturer is suggesting...

    4. Keep your prospective date away from hot people

before or after exposing yourself? After an exposure I am fairly certain most potentials will move into social isolation.

    5. Dim lighting is your friend!

Yes, certainly is if your planning to expose yourself...

    ReplyDelete
  64. 1. A person will like you if you say/do something pleasant rather than someting unpleasant

    duh...

Good work Mick, you should lecture Social Psych from now on ;o)

    Iain's Tips for Exam-Time Munchies

#391: If you have a cough, do not eat carrot around people who will make you laugh frequently.

#392: When you realise that nobody really noticed the spray of carrot fragments expelled from your mouth, finish the carrot as quickly as possible and vacate the room.

Well, another evening spent playing Halo, another evening closer to my maths and physics exams without having studied for them. I think I'm finding it hard to keep working now that chem is done with...

  65. I have a theory:

    - All 3 'Anonymous' people are Tim

    I have another theory:

    - 'Anonymous' (provided there is only one of them - big call) - male, goes to uni, either knows me well enough to spell my name or can read
    - 'Anonymous 2' - undoubtedly female and attending uni, possibly Rachelle
    - 'Anonymous 3' - Tim

Hmmm... maybe I'm just tired, but i'm curious...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hehee... I'll remember that next time I want to munch on a carrot... (or anything else for that matter) Hehee...

You have 7 more days to survive... thats all... work hard now and you wont regret it later... (halo can wait :o) ) 7 more days... thats all!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oh so embarrassing! I'm grateful for the orange-ish tiles we have in the kitchen! *shame*

Yeah!!! Seven more days and I can run down the main path of Vic Park pretending to be William Wallace and screaming at the top of my lungs, "FREEDOM!!!"* And only 10 more days for you, and only 11 for the whole rest of the exam period... I believe this is what they call "the home stretch". One way or another, God will bring us though on the other side, because we are His.

*Disclaimer: This will not happen. Apologies.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I was disapointed by the disclaimer... :( and you've got the long hair to match... just need the face paint...

    gravely disapointed :(

    ReplyDelete
  69. Give me a sword as tall as I am and the kilt to go with it (and the face paint of course), and I might consider it... if I had an army of brave Science EUers in my wake that is! :oD

I think the reality is though, that the hair and some Scottish blood are the only things I really share with William Wallace :o( I definitely don't live up to the "braveheart" title!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I vote you paint your face for your final exam... war paint... in preparation for a hard fought struggle!

    DO IT!

    ReplyDelete
  71. The struggle would be to show up to the exam wearing warpaint :oP

    ReplyDelete
  72. ":o( I definitely don't live up to the "braveheart" title!"

    as if!

and Mick... I definately agree with that suggestion... he he

    ReplyDelete
  73. ARGH!! how am I supposed to have propper "study breaks" when there is no decent comfort food around!!

Was looking for ice-cream and totally depressed to find "carb-smart" ice cream - what's with that huh?? and some unknown brand of "light and [not-so]tasty" weird wildberry flavour. My sound exotic, but is feral strawberry ice-cream trying to be different. Went with the carb-smart and doused it in choc-mint sauce to hide the icky-ness of bad ice-cream.
    When will my mother learn?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Also - Iain, I would totally paint your face if you would do that on Friday!

Does anybody have a kilt?? Mick, I think your brother does if i'm not mistaken.

Also - the exposing of ones-self in Dr Lisa's tips is not necescarily the weirdo-old-guy-in-a-trench-coat-on-the-side-of-Parramatta-rd kind of exposure, but merely a different way of saying that you have to be seen and noticed by the prospective date. [And probably, unless you're like Brad Pitt or something, best they see you with your clothes on]

Social Psych is so great, there was actually a question in today's exam on the beer-goggles effect

    no joke

    ReplyDelete
  75. "Was looking for ice-cream and totally depressed to find "carb-smart" ice cream - what's with that huh??"

"That" is brilliant stuff for abnormal people like me who have spethial needs :o)

Hmmm... I'm not so sure about this whole face-painty thingo...

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah - fair enough with the stepthial needs, but no one in my house has special needs!
I just think its a bit crazy too with all this carb-smart stuff, just cashing in on the fact that people are now afraid of carbs - like carb-smart pasta and cereal!! Pasta is like THE carb of carbs... thats like having meat-smart steak, or fuctose-smart apples! for crying out loud... drives me a bit nuts.

    *breathe in, breathe out*

ok, all good now - vented for the evening

  77. Hey, wow, seems I missed some uber blogging... damn micro- no matter how much I study more and more seem to pop up that I don't know. Oh well, my neck hurts too much to sleep anyway.

Katie, I read that tips thing and I read number 1 and just thought- 'crap'. Oh well, maybe I'll just expose myself and blind the man... hehehe.

Well done guys. I can't wait to get one under my belt. These last few days have just dragged their feet. Esp. with my mothers weird friend rice (I swear she puts anything within arms reach in).

    ReplyDelete
  78. Good to hear you've finally reached the light at the end of tunnel (i.e finished Chemistry) Iain. I have a William Wallace replica sword at home (no joke - brothers 21st present) if you want it for your run through Vic Park.... but you might get arrested if you run around with a sword.....

And don't eat nuts with a cough either - they get stuck in the back of your throat and make it worse.

I wish I only had 7 days to go.... I don't finish till the last day (but I also dont start till next Monday..... which all seems very nice because you've got 2 weeks to study, but i didn't use the first week at all and i've got 5 exams in as many days and I've just only realised now that I have SOOOOO much to learn and its just not going to happen.... well it might if i stop going on the net...)

    Ciao

    ReplyDelete
  79. "":o( I definitely don't live up to the "braveheart" title!"

No seriously... I'm totally chicken! Especially about this! So I'm really sorry to disappoint everyone, but I just don't think it will happen.

Yet another example of how fear rules my life... kinda wish I hadn't said anything at all now :oS

    Katie - Good point.

Sonia - Keep all your household chemicals locked safely away in the cupboard... and as if you don't do pleasant things. you're heaps nice.

Emma - I'll steer clear of the nuts. Study hard & well!

    ReplyDelete
  80. No, I am with Sonia on this one Iain. She's evil.

I do have a kilt - and I reckon it would fit you quite well. I also am willing to come in and to paint your face for the exam.

However if you are feeling chicken - I can get my hands on one of those suits too. That however may be a little bit interesting to do an exam in.

Actually that would be sooo good. Rock up to an exam in a chicken suit... run in just as reading time is starting.... look at the head supervisor and just say " I can explain"... take your seat and do the exam.

I'm happy to come over and paint your face before the exam... More than happy :P

    ReplyDelete
  81. Ai! What have I done?!?

No thanks Mick, I'll be fine...

Humiliation isn't my fondest emotion, and when that fact is coupled with my need to get to the exam room at least half an hour before the exam starts just to make sure nothing goes horribly wrong, it ends up with another half-hour of humiliation when I have to explain the chicken suit/war paint to everyone who meets me there. Not my cup of tea.

Granted, I would laugh at someone else who did it...

Hmmm... wasn't the weather nice today?

On a serious note, focus is hard to come by, and this maths exam tomorrow could be a little harder than expected...

    ReplyDelete
  82. mmmm dude that does suck bout the maths.

However I can also remedy your exam room problem. I will personally scout out which room you will need to be at for your final exam. I will personally call the science department and confirm the exam is on at that time. And will personally dress you in either the chicken suit or the war paint!! :P

how does that one sound? :P

    ReplyDelete
  83. Am I the only one who doesn't know who William Wallace is? Do you mean Charles Wallace- but I don't think he wore a kilt...

    ReplyDelete
  84. William Wallace is the man from Braveheart, who led the Scots against the English who were trying to take over Scotland. He got captured in the end, they cut his body into four pieces and took one piece to each corner of England as a warning to other insurgents; a similar fate to the one which may well befall me if I were to turn up to an exam in a chicken suit :oP

    ReplyDelete
  85. Ah! Right, really should have watched that movie all the way through.

Anyway, I had a dream about Tim and Mick in their new hair styles!! It was so funny, they had a mixture of dreads, shaved heads and very, very unruly sideburns. It was hilarious! I was with high school friends and I tried to run away from them so people wouldn't know that I knew them... hehehe... so funny.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Also, everyone, I drove on the motorway last night!!!! I was so excited I started speeding... he he... opps.

    ReplyDelete
  87. haha - I have afeeling that my hair won't do dreads particularly well. neither will sideys be an option for me (or Tim fairly soon :))

awesome about the driving. I'm tipping you to have your license ahead of my brother. I'm tipping my sister to have hers before both of you :).

    ReplyDelete
  88. Well done Sonia! You'll be driving all over Sydney within no time!

    Two down.

    It's getting cold :oP

That's an awesome dream! And it's not too far away from what could very well be reality... :o) oh this is going to be great!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Bummer! 5°! That's cold!

My mind is objecting to being used so hard... just trying to keep in mind that the hard work now will pay off in the end.

It will, i know it will...

Have been reading through the Physics syllabus, and it's encouraging to note the number of things I'm reasonably familiar with the general concept of. What's worrying me is that it's only a two-hour exam... two hours isn't a very long time in which to express your understanding of anything, let alone a semester's worth of physics. Really though, it's the last thing I should whinge about, given the circumstances... exam time and all... might just go to bed now coz brain has been off for at least an hour.

    ReplyDelete
  90. speaking of realities: we are now only $160 from making a little girls dream a reality...

    ReplyDelete
  91. not that I am saying your a little girl... short... but ... meh ... they need an edit button on blog comments

    ReplyDelete
  92. mate - think on the bright side. 2 hours means that you have room to fudge more, and know less. Les in depth explanation.

the fact that you are worrying about not having enough time to write all that you know - is a good thing. It says you know a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  93. and my real objective is complete.

    100th comment :P

    ReplyDelete
  94. Woot! If comments were dalmatians, there would be 101 of them! :oD

Problem there Mick - as quoted from the front page of every Physics exam:

"In answering the questions in this paper, it is particularly important to give reasons for your answer. Only partial marks will be awarded for correct answers with inadequate reasons."

But hey, it works for Chemistry ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  95. I can't wait till this is all over and I can write poetry and play piano and sit in Vic Park again...

    ReplyDelete
  96. ... and also go to AnCon!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. yeah that's going to be awesome :o)

    ReplyDelete
  98. however when exams are over I will stop my freecell addiction. I'm getting pretty good too :(

    ReplyDelete
  99. What's all this 'waiting till exams are over' to do those things. My piano playing is getting so much better because I do that to procrastinate!! hehe. Good for stress relief too.

    What's your free-cell % Mick?? I've been working on mine, gone up 2% since stu-vac started :-)
So bad... pray I can focus on one thing for more than 30 mins...!!

    Go AnCon!!! w00t!

    ReplyDelete
  100. my freecell percentage is up to 91%

48 wins 5 losses. i restarted at the start of stuvac though. so this is all freecell games played while on stuvac

    ReplyDelete
  101. Good idea Katie! *plays piano*

    ReplyDelete
  102. I'm cuttin' sick on the solitaire...

in unrelated news, my new phone's "Nokia" symbol on the front is actually a reflection diffraction grating - it's shiny silver with tiny horizontal grooves, and when you rotate vertically in the general direction of a light source, you can see the colours of the spectrum sequentially. I wonder if they meant to do that...?

    ReplyDelete
  103. ARGH.......... Exams...... I cant stand this... ARGHHHHHHHHHHH....

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'm with you there Leanne!

    on a side note:
my freecell percentage is up to 92% for all stuvac playing... 65 games played in all, thats like at least 7 good solid study hours gone right there.

on another side note: I am having some moderately serious asthma attacks right at the moment. Prayer would be appreciated.

hope things are all sweet with you all!! WEEKEND!!! WOOOO!! this means that unless your name is Mr Pedley - you have no exams for 2 days!
    good luck Tim.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Wrong... I have a Physics paper tomorrow. I'm staring it down at the moment, looking deep into it's feirce red eyes, weighing up my chances... it's going to be a tough beast but I know I could absolutely nail it to the wall if today had 36 hours in it. Pity about that.

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHH!!! Just a little more time...!!!

Please pray for me... I'm almost at saturation point as far as physics cramming goes, and I haven't reached the second part of the course yet...

Hope your asthma attacks go away soon Mick, will be praying. Praying for you too, Leanne, they'll be over soon. Praying for you too, Katie... when you read this, go and focus on something more productive. Hope your exam tomorrow goes well Tim.

    God is with us all.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Blah blah gloob glue glah!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Oh dear, Sonia's flipped... :oS

That or she's been eating Clag...

I kinda echo that sentiment though...

Three down... Physics was a tougher beast than I had thought. It didn't nail me to the wall, but it inflicted a few nasty wounds with the nailgun. In God's hands and the marker's hands now. Me... I'm feeling quite burnt out. Most thorough study I've done in such a short amount of time... and it hurts!

Maths next... Vector Calculus - as Emma says, it's okay if you can remember what each of the formulae do... and that won't be easy.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Physics tends to be a bit nasty like that. I only had to get 40 marks out of 150 in 1st semester phys exam last year, which sounds easy. I walked out of the exam an hour and a half early thinking i'd most certainly failed but ended up on almost a credit..... In short, you may think you've done badly but they tend to scale well.

    Good luck for vector calc.

    ReplyDelete
  109. hehee you're a wealth of encouragement Emma, particularly when it comes to how to look at the dark side of a nasty thing in a bright way :o)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Coldish, wet til Thursday. Shouldn't need more than jumpers and something to keep the rain out.

Rain is good, calms me down...

    ReplyDelete
  111. Iain! Stop playing with nails!!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. ...and I'll stop playing with the Clag... I took glue sniffing to the next level...hehehe... no just joking, serious stuff kids, don't do it.

    ReplyDelete
  113. awww... but it's fun *dislodges nail from foot*

Is Clag really edible? Can we have a live witness who can verify this?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Procrastination tool for the theologically minded:

    Which theologian are you?

    I was Anselm.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I got Barth as well!!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. You are the theologian Andrew Katay.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Anslem, very closely followed by Barth.

    ReplyDelete
  118. head...burning... clear...thought.....gone... stress...level...AAARRGH!...critical... *thud* i think this one's got me...

    ReplyDelete
  119. YAAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

1 exam down.... there was fist pumping excited actions coming out of this one. No cartwheels, you have to wait til cartwheel friday before you can do cartwheels.

speaking of friday - whats doing?

    ReplyDelete
  120. I'm having horrible thoughts of 'oh crap it's tuesday and i missed my exam.... phew... it's only monday

    ReplyDelete
  121. Done.

    :o)

Oh, what a fortnight... one of the hardest, but very rewarding at the same time. Thankyou so much to everyone who has prayed for me; you have no idea just how much I appreciate it. I am keeping the rest of you in my prayers as you run the last stretch of the race... keep fighting the fight, and look forward eagerly to Friday!

This maths paper, praise God, was nicer to me than I had expected. Not hard, seeing as I was expecting certain doom and fiery wrath. It's just nice when you can understand what's going on enough to do most of it. Praise God! I'm so thankful... He really has never let me down.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Cartwheel Friday? Im not even doing exams and im excited.

    ReplyDelete
  123. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
    YOU MADE IT!!!!

    congratulations mate!!
enjoy your much earned rest. I will join you in exactly 3 days 20 hours and 53 minutes

    ReplyDelete
  124. Got next semesters timetable... hmmm... definately keeping english... too attached to everything else to drop anything- will just give up social life (and by social life I mean sitting at home with Television and big carton of 'Nuts About Chocolate' Icecream (best icecream in the world))...mmm ice cream

    ReplyDelete
  125. hmmm... timetable... i think i've really got a crap one here. Two clashes - music and physics again - so I'm going to have to go from physics building to seymour centre to physics building twice a week. And, three 5pm lectures for HPS which makes it clash with Equip. HPS is quickly losing its appeal... Music is losing its appeal... hmmm always something to whinge about...

    ReplyDelete
  126. well guys. my timetable features in the "interesting" category. None of the times are modifiable, so what I got is what I got.

Allow me to lay it out for you.
    Monday: 10-11am;
    Tuesday: 11-1pm; 4-6pm;
    Wednesday: DAY OFF
    Thursday: 4-6pm;
    Friday: 10-11am;

    Total number of days: 4
    Total number of hours: 8

*note: while I'm kind not happy with the timetable, I also want to profoundly apologise to all people who have 24+ hours a week, who are looking at mine and saying that's just not fair.

**note note: I will be working pretty much full time on top of this workload. I'm not that much of a bludger really.

***note note note: Iain - HPS is a different kettle of fish. there is a serious difference between what is scheduled - and what you should be "attending".
for example the Monday 5pm can be skipped pretty easily. Keep up-to-date with the readings, attend all tutorials, attend the other lectures - and you should be pretty much set to do well at the course.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Hey Mick, when they give you your Arts degree, make sure you smile sweetly and say "Thanks, it was nothing" :o) man, 8 hours... I pity you with having to do full time work on top of it.

    ReplyDelete
  128. You guys talk WAY too much!! Just imagine how much studying could have been done instead of procrastinating commenting on blogs! (This is coming from me who is unemployed and not at uni)...

    ReplyDelete
  129. well it's meant to be a de-stressing tool, but uni students will be uni students :o)

    ReplyDelete
  130. I'm kinda looking forward to full time work. will be, I guess a change of scenery.

Am going to need to be a lot more disciplined in what I am doing while at home... and i think to some extent while I am at uni.

this is not to say that I will not continue my double major in EU and Terrace Cafe... its just I might actually have work ot do while I'm there.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Hey guys.... I have algebra tomorrow and as the hour draws near i'm realising how much I'm going to need a miracle to pass...
    I'd really appreciate your prayers.

    thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  132. awww... poor emma, been thinking of you while you're doing your five days of exams =(

    ReplyDelete
  133. oh, by the way did my biochem exam today and it was the bomb! i walked in and someone was sitting at my seat so i kicked him off =) and then during reading time i realised i had something to say about each question- then freaked out cos i finally got around to reading the cover page and realised that the exam is worth 76%!! but then calmed down. it was good. took my two and a half hours, but mostly becuase sexy biochem boy was in visable range... hehe hmmm... seriously considering a major...

    ReplyDelete
  134. Awesome about Biochem Sonia, but I must ask, what if he doesn't major in it?

    God be with you Emma.

    ReplyDelete
  135. i can do without the distraction ;)

    ReplyDelete
  136. see - I've never had that issue in an exam.... computer science isn't exactly the sex appeal kinda degree.

Nice work Sonia! glad it went well.

Em - will most definitely be praying for you.

Software is the most rediculously not fun subject to be studying for. A long road ahead with it.
that being said - my night is completely occupied. Australia verse England... mmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Turns out sexy biochem boy can also be sexy MBLG boy... hehe... bubbles saw... not to objectify anyone or anything- however! Got free pizza... yay. And now I die in Cell Biology... sigh

    ReplyDelete
  138. yes - not to objectify namless, eyecandy of sexy MBLG boy!

    relax Sonia...
you can now count the number of 5 hours blocks of time before you finish on 1 hand...

I still have to use 2 and a half hands... :(

ZERO MOTIVATION right now. Prayer please, or Software will destroy me.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I survived algebra! I think I'll almost get just enough marks to pass, well maybe.... Word on the street is they scale advanced subjects pretty well, and there were heaps of people there that I'd never seen before (and I went to lectures)....so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

    Thanks for your prayers!

3 down, 2 to go!! woohoo!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Yay for good Algebra exam Emma! :o)

Yay for free pizza Sonia! Hope Cell Bio didn't really kill you...

    Will be praying Mick.

Can honestly say I've never been distracted by a hot girl in an exam. You might say that's because I do physics, but I'll have you know that there's quite a few nice looking girls in physics. It's just that the passion is for the physics... and when you have two hours to do an exam that needs three, you don't have time to fill your head with useless notions or romantic fascinations, even if you are certain they could solve relativity equations with infinite grace and speed. There's just no time for crap like that! Haven't been distracted in any other exams either... the roof of MacLaurin Hall is more distracting to me during an exam frankly.

    ReplyDelete
  141. me too!!... the roof is amazing...!
thank goodness no lectures in there this semester... although I can always find something to distract me regardless of where I am... oh dear

    ReplyDelete
  142. ...you had lectures in MacLaurin Hall?!? *is flabbergasted* That would be sooooooooo cool!!!

    ReplyDelete
  143. *Intregued* Someone want to explain what the roof/ceiling of MacLaurin Hall is similar to??

    ReplyDelete
  144. speaking of distractions - I need one right now before I go clinically insane.

McLaurin Hall is terrible for exams... I've stared at that roof in the exam claiming i'll take a 20 second break to regain myself. It's so hard to keep focus.

description: its a series of very pretty beams arranged in a generally concentric circular fashion. It's very cool, goes well with the sandstone and enormous pictures of prison staff.

Software... another 43 hours to go... I'd rather beat myself to death with a toothbrush.

    ReplyDelete
  145. no lectures in there... just exams... (sorry...brain is fried)

    ReplyDelete
  146. oh hehe :o) pity... i almost woulda picked up whatever subject that was just for that reason!

Mick, bagpipe-playing ape is a massive improvement :oD

    ReplyDelete
  147. mmm... I've hit that stage as well.

    ReplyDelete
  148. really? I editted him myself :P

    ReplyDelete
  149. ...and as comical as it may be to see someone trying to beat themselves to death with a toothbrush, please don't! We think you're swell without bristles and bruises :o)

    Nice work with the editing!

    ReplyDelete
  150. It's not really a distraction thing- it's more like a oh man! I don't know what PCR is... but I looked at it last night, or at least three hours ago... think woman think! Oh! He looks so nice.. oh! that's right! Now I've got it, yes! I own those 5 marks!!

Watched Star Wars- eager for more dicussions about it, and wanting a light saber SO badly!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  151. hehehee yeah! I'd love a lightsaber! And my own little pet Yoda ;o) hehe he's so cool. I think that movie was pulled off really well... wasn't gonna be an easy one but I reckon they rose to the challenge well.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I don't expect many of you know this feeling, as most of you live at home... it's the feeling of being very hungry and being not hungry at the same time, which comes when you go over in your mind the options you have for dinner and they all turn you off. For instance, almost every meal I have eaten in the last three weeks has been one of:
    a. porridge,
    b. eggs and sausages,
    c. pasta with sausages or crumbed fish,
    d. salmon and lettuce sandwich.
When you consider that in the last three weeks I've eaten approximately 60 meals, four variations is rather pitiful, and as much as I am grateful to God for providing me with food, it's not making me look forward to dinner in the slightest. In fact, the thought of more sausages and more pasta (or maybe rice) is almost making me feel sick to the point of not eating, except that since I had breakfast at 3:30 I'm really quite hungry. Blast this fiendish menu! :oP

    ReplyDelete
  153. mate - you are in serious need of some cheffing lessons.
plenty of cheap meals that you can do - and plenty of them that require about zero effort.

take stir fry, fried rice etc etc etc.

cost you next to nothing - and will taste pretty reasonable.

    ReplyDelete
  154. on that note:

I can now have as many hours til freedom as I do fingers and toes...

IT IS NOW COUNTABLE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!! MY FREEDOM IS AT HAND!!

there some serious pent up energy waiting to be released here...
    19 hours, 36 minutes remaining

    ReplyDelete
  155. Awesome, Mick :o) hang in there!

    Hmmm...

    1. Fried rice - made this once, and my ex would confirm (if we actually talked nowadays) that it actually tasted like the Chinese-restaurant-bought stuff.
    2. Stir fry - very easy to make, have done so quite a few times (with varying success - i think I tried to add egg once and it failed, however it's gone ok the other times)

    Problems:
    1. Rice takes about 20 mins to cook, at least 10 to fry, and then you can only keep it for so long before it gets dry and disgusting. Don't get me wrong, I love rice, but it's a bit of a pain.
    2. Stir fry should be served with rice (or noodles)
    3. Both of these dishes require vegetables, which regrettably I have none of. Centrelink keeps me alive, but they make no promises to allow me to be alive and healthy.

Of course, the fact that Bilo sausages are almost becoming vomitworthy warrants that I should be cooking with more variety by now, but the plain truth is that food costs money! One of my dreams is to become a subsistence farmer, but that will most likely never happen, particularly if I live in the city.

    ReplyDelete
  156. That movie was good!! Except for the lines:

    "You're beautiful..."
"It's beacause I'm so in love..."
"No, it's because I love you..."
"Then you are blinded by love."

I was sitting alone in the cinema and everyone around me must have thought I was mad cos I burst out laughing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  157. see thats where a simply addition of packaged frozen vegetables will do the trick.

cheap and easy and throwable in for frying.

rice can stay for several days. put it into a tupperware container, store in fridge.
sprinkle with water before reheating and consuming.

    will keep its moisture.

    ReplyDelete
  158. guys the excitement is building.

there is EXACTLY 7 hours and 33 minutes until the unleashing of the Mick....

    ReplyDelete
  159. there's wisdom in those words mick...

...and you're starting to scare me :o)

    ReplyDelete
  160. No more Star Wars talk!
    Still havent seen it.
    :P

    ReplyDelete
  161. I would just like to say... although it brings immense sadnesses and pain, and although with the sunshine comes the rain, life really truly is beautiful.

Watch this space - i'm working on something, and i'll keep you posted about it... hehe i just made a blogger joke :o) lol i laff!

    ReplyDelete
  162. can I give a much belated

    WWEEEAARAHHAAWHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exams are over. Cartwheel Friday was a huge success!!! and 3 weeks of holidays await me with beckoning arms!
